MS word is a program that has helped me greatly as a student. I use it to write all of my papers and also use it in many other assignments. It is helpful because it gives you so many options on how to edit and review your writings, especially with features such as word count, grammar check, and all the editing toolbars. Teachers often use MS word in order to type out their documents for students. Most of my teachers supply information to us on assignments or what we're learning by typing up a word document.
My experience with copy right and fair use of materials in an educational environment mainly comes from learning how to cite my sources in various school work. I have been taught since middle school that it is always important to give credit to the work you use, which is why you cite your sources. As a teacher, I would also stress the importance of citing any sources you use. This means that in my own work/presentations, I would always give credit and check the copyright of whatever I was using. I also would teach my students how to correctly cite sources and the various copyright information.
Cyberbullying is a problem that sadly can be very common. In my classroom, I would make sure to stress the importance of watching what you say on social media, while also making a point that everything you post can be traced back to you. Showing the effect cyberbullying can have on someone and explaining how wrong it is is also a way I would address the issue in my classroom.
A solution to academic honesty is to clearly list out your expectations for the students with the academic honesty policy. Make sure the students know the importance of being honest in their work. You can check the students academic honesty by checking for any sort of plagiarism.
Privacy is an issue that has become more prevalent with the widespread usage of social media. Although social media can be fun, we have to be so careful with what we post. This is something that as a teacher I would make sure to tell my students. There's many different ways you can check your privacy on various websites and apps, so teaching this to the students will help with the privacy issue. For example, on instagram you can have your account set to private or public. It's also important to stress that most things you post online are never fully private, so you should always be cautious with what you're saying and posting.

ISTE Standards and Technology in the Classroom
Technology can be a helpful and efficient way to get information across to students. Teachers can use it in a way where they are giving off information, getting their students to practice what they learn, and both receiving and giving feedback to their students. It can keep students engaged and help them learn in an often quicker manner. The modern age we live in now is a big reason why students and teachers use technology in the classroom. With technology almost constantly surrounding us, it inspires them to find ways to incorporate it into their own classrooms.
The ISTE standards help provide a framework for the use of technology in education. The standards include ones for students, teachers, educators, coaches, and computer science educators, and can be very helpful and beneficial when put into use. One standard I think is meaningful is the "Digital Citizen" standard because it shows the importance in using technology in a smart, safe and responsible way. One standard that seems outside my skill set is the "Global Collaborator" standard. This standard seems like the one I have the least experience, which causes it to feel like it is outside my skill set.
I think that most of today's youth in America could be described as "digital natives". When growing up with technology, you become more accustomed and exposed to it. Being a digital native means that you grew up after the widespread growth and use of technology, so it played a role in most of your life. The differences I have seen between students my age and teachers are not extreme, but students often know more about the technology than the teachers do since they are often more accustomed to it. I think in the future, my students will know more about technology than I do because they will have grown up with further advances than I did.

EME2040 Beginning Blog Post

EME2040 Beginning Blog Post

Some things about me are that I want to go into education, I love to play soccer and tennis, and my favorite hobby is calligraphy. I am excited for this class and am looking forward to learning more about education. I love to watch Netflix and I love to go hiking.
I am coming into this class with some prior technology knowledge, but not too much. I know how to use things like word, powerpoint, canvas, and other basic concepts like that. I also know how to use and operate social media, including twitter, facebook, Instagram, etc. I have used technology in many of my classrooms growing up, mainly when teachers use projectors, online grading systems, or teach from powerpoints.
In this class I am hoping to learn how to incorporate technology into teaching. I do plan on becoming a teacher after college, so I think this class is going to have a lot to offer. I want to expand my knowledge of technology, and learn how to work more components of it. There's a lot to learn, and I hope this class helps in how we can use technology and how we can apply that in the classroom setting.
